Lessons from Summer Trip Camp (Middle Schoolers): Explaining ADHD — Ryan Wexelblatt (ADHD Dude)

(Watch clip at ADHD Dude Facebook page)

I’ve found that 95% of the kids I’ve worked with have never had ADHD explained to them in a way that’s relatable. Many (if not most of them) have been brought to a therapist at some point who never explained ADHD to them in a way they can understand thus they often start believing something is wrong with them.

Because your child has ADHD does not mean they need counseling/talk therapy. As I’ve spoken about many times here, the majority of families I’ve worked with have shared with me that counseling was not helpful, and often makes their son feel like something is wrong with him.

My goal is to depathologize ADHD for all kids. Each week, on the first day of camp I have this discussion with the kids.
